Radio students at Westminster are responsible for the university's station, Smoke Radio. This is a collaboration between the School of Media , Art & Design and the University of Westminster Students Union . Each year, a committee drawn from current radio students take on roles such as Head of Music, Head of Marketing and Head of Programmes, to organize and schedule the term-time schedule.

The station broadcasts via the web ( www.smokeradio.co.uk ), with a selection of music and news programmes. Generally the daytime output is drawn from a playlist of current chart and indie music, while the evening schedule consists of specialist programmes. Students from across the university, from all four campuses, are encouraged to take part in the station. Full training and support are provided by the radio students.

You can listen to a sample of recent output and podcasts here.

As well as the regular schedule, Smoke Radio broadcasts special events, such as a week's worth of programmes for Freshers' Week and to mark the end of the year in May. This year there was also a 24 Hour broadcast for Comic Relief, which saw many of the station team sleeping overnight in the studios.

In 2007 we won Silver in the Station of the Year category at the Student Radio Awards - listen to the entry here:

and at the 2006 Student Radio Awards we had three winning entries:
